Noob Guide - Kokolores - 2008-11-25

Hi @ all,

i'm new here and wanted to ask if anyone would be so nice to write a noob guide. It would be really easier to get in the game if there are some general hints.

For example
Which tank is easy to start with?
When should i change the tank?
Are there some weapons which have a focus only on tanks?

The early game is more simple to me and i also reach the same levels as my friends or foes. But in the midgame when i dont get the kills (normaly :-) )they are leveling much faster then me.

Maybe u can also add some replays for the different strategies.
I would really appreciate that!!!!!
Thx
Koko

Re: Noob Guide - Shift1 - 2008-11-25

I think suhc a thread could be pretty helpfull to wide the comunity too.

But for your questions, i think that you cant make your gameplay much better by some hints, its all about playing, playing and playing again.
Also look what the good ones in your game buy and if you like that (for example they play a weapon with a range you like) then just try to do that next game.
Ofcause that goes for playstyle or tankbuilds aswell.

After a while youll notice that you get better on your own because the feeling for btanks just comes with time and knowledge which youll get anwyway by continuing playing.Smile

Re: Noob Guide - qweqqweq - 2008-11-25

Lordaeron is so infested with noob players that i'm always bitching about i'd be a bastard if i didn't respond to this thread. Here's some quick tips that i usually give to help noobs (i'm intending these tips for normal mode (3k gold start)):

1. Get a tank and a weapon before you try to farm a lane (DO NOT GET TINKER! Tinker is very playable at the start but it's not for noobs in my opinion! do not use antigrav or demolisher untill after you're already doing good with scout, light tank, and helicopter).

1a. if u get a scout, light tank, or helicopter i recomend getting a bombard rocket for 2,000 gold from the weapons shop 1 (the shop that looks like an arcane sanctum) at first since range is good and easy at the start. Bennie.fm is right, "range makes noobs look like pros." Once you get good enough then u can switch the starting weapons you get to plasma weapon for 2,000 gold for helicopter, and 2 basic magics for scout and light tank. (don't get a bombard rocket if you're playing with less than 3 players on your team)

1b. Try to get to your lane as fast as possible, if you've still got at least 75 gold after buying a tank and a weapon then hit the "c" botton on your keyboard and then left-click the control point factory you're headed for to save time (anything to save time is worth it in my opinion). If you've gbot 3 or more players on your team than you should have at least 1 guy farming each lane.

2. Once you get to your lane start killing creeps as fast as you can. Farm, farm, farm. Don't try and kill an enemy tank. If an enemy screws up then they will kill themselves. Just stay behind your creeps and keep your weapons barely in range of their creeps to kill them as fast as you can.

3. Try not to die since you're gonna loose a lot of farming time while you're dead and you'll have to spend more gold to teleport back out to your lane when your tank revives. If you wanna play it a little risky then you can wait untill about 4.8 minutess or 9.8 minutes into the game. If you go for a kill and die then, then it's not so bad since you get extra force gold every 5 minutes of the game and you can shop in base while you're dead. (but don't do that unless you're pretty sure you can get the kill. You don't want to die on purpose).

4. Once you're in your lane farming and you've got a second where you're not in danger do this really fast: Type in "-w", "-rc", and "-zoom xxxx", where the "x's" are from 0 to 5000 (whatever you prefer)

5. Upgrade your weapon/weapons by left clicking it as soon as you have enough gold.

6. Once you've got 1400 gold go back to base and get an iron hull from the dude that looks like arthas.

7. Save up 4000 gold then go back to your base's vehicle factory and get a thunder tank.
7a. Up the (Q) ability and the (E) ability for the thunder tank as much as you can in that order).

8. Try to shop fast and get back to farming fast. Same thing if you die. Try to get back to your lane fast!!! Keep an eye on the clock whenever you're in base. Keep in mind that every 5 minutes of the game you'll get bonus force gold so you might want to delay getting an item untill after you get that gold.

9. After this point I really can't tell you what to do. Just don't stay in thunder tank for too long. Some easy starter tanks for later are the sky tank, and demon tank.

9. Try to join a battle tanks clan since most the good players can be found there. As long as you're wiling to learn and you're not a dick they'll probably take you. If you're in Lordaeron try to join my clan, clan bt (channel: "clan bt") by going to http://www.btanks.tk

10. Oh ya, I almost forgot. Avoid this noob move: Unless you're already in the middle lane don't get swarm rockets. You can get weapons in your base faster that are just as good like the electro cannon which is very similiar. And you won't get killed in your base getting an electro cannon like you can if you go for swarm rockets. Don't waste your time trying to get swarm rockets from the middle shop unless you're already there.

This is about the most foolproof noob advice i can give. I hope it helps.

Re: Noob Guide - ChronicStoned - 2008-11-25

nice guide, i think it will help the new players which visit btanks.net
unluckily most noobs don't =(

Re: Noob Guide - Kokolores - 2008-11-25

So the most important thing is to farm, farm and farm.
Can u also write a short introduction into trading?Big Grin

Re: Noob Guide - Bobguydude - 2008-11-26

You can find a trading guide here.
It's not exactly short, but if you want to do some trading I definitely recommend that you read it.

Re: Noob Guide - GooglyBoogly - 2008-11-26

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet -probably because it is so simple is the three healing options availiable:

1. Factories: move nearby any factory you control and you will heal pretty quickly
2. Healing/Mana runes - Pick these up for instant extra health.mana (+10%) as you need them
3. Strategic points (the flags) these also provide a small ammount of healing (10hp/sec?) they are kind of like a mini-factory bonus in that regard

The factories should be your mani source of healing: There is no need to go all the wat back to your main base to heal

Are there any other commands? Useful or useless doesnt matter...i mean also for hosting.
What doest -w and -rc do?

Re: Noob Guide - Bobguydude - 2008-11-26

-w toggles the weather on and off, like the snow and rain and such. -rc activates/deactivates the camera pan when you revive. And yes, there are many other commands, you can find them in the in-game help menu. If there is a place on the forum (which I think there is, but I can't remember) where you can find them, I don't know where it is.

Re: Noob Guide - Shift1 - 2008-11-28

Quote:So the most important thing is to farm, farm and farm

This is, indeed, important.
But its just a result of whats the most important thing, as allready mentioned: stay behind your creeps, DONT attack by just running into him, just wait until he makes a misstake. With that and the (pretty good i must say) guyde you can stay in the game even if youre rly not used to the btanks-gameplay, at least if your enemy isnt too good.

Also you can try to make yourself something like a rule before you get better, for example: "whenever only 2 of my creeps are remaining, i go back and wait for the next creepwave next wave"(ofc not if youre playing longrange, its just an example) or so.

And just to add: If you somehow dislike playing longrange you can start with light and 2 basic magics too and do the same as said in the guyde too. It´s not too hard to play either in my opinion.

Gl and good practice, shift

Re: Noob Guide - Visjeplus - 2008-12-01

Nice guide qweqqweq,

I just want to add my 3 basic rules which sort of have been handled:
-stay with your creeps
-farm, farm, farm.
-tank upgrade before hull, and hull before weapon

Very often a less experienced player guess that buying a better weapon is better then more hitpoints (I guess they think it gives them more kills and so more gold). But it’s quite the opposite, when you are facing a person who got a better tank instead. You die just as easy but you are worth more gold. So go for a hull or a better tank at the start.

Re: Noob Guide - Kokolores - 2008-12-05

Thx for the help.
I have an additional question.

Do u often buy the XP-Boost?

Is the boost worth the money charged for?

greets
Koko

Re: Noob Guide - horselance - 2008-12-05

No. You must get your experience on battlefield. It will be enough. Otherwise it will be a waste of money.
Xp boost is mainly used by exploders, because they cannot stay on battlefield and need xp.

Re: Noob Guide - Matte - 2008-12-11

helicopter is a easy tank! play to begin only air. later test the ather tanks.

or play to beginn singelplayergames and testing the tanks.

OOoops i am one of these.

The reason why i buy first a weapon is that i can kill other tanks that have not bought weapons or tank upgrade yet, if i get a tank, i get more HP but i cant kill faster a player who is saving gold and didnt spent it. But if i buy a weapon, i can kill them faster and i dont need the extra HP because the other player is saving the gold and didnt buy tank or weapon.

I think this factor is more important that giving some gold when you die (you shouldnt!!) because if you farm good and buy the weapon at 5 min. then you will have your nice new weapon at the field, other players might want to die before they buy tank or weapon o just save gold for later.

Re: Noob Guide - Dolnor - 2009-11-19

Hi !
I'm new on this forum, but i play Btanks a lot, in almost every mode.
I wanted to add that 3k is the most common mode, but u will often find 5k also, and more.
With 5k, you can buy a hull and a weapon at the begining ( i usually play heli with iron hull + electro cannon ), which can be a nice choice because u can kill all the players who have heli without hull ( they are a lot ).
I'm not talking about hb ( i don't especially like this mode, normal's the best :p)

See u on BNet
Dolnor

Re: Noob Guide - Linkin - 2009-12-01

Hi, i'm new.
Befor i can buy ... for example ... my second tank, is there any opportunity to sell my first tank to gain some extra gold?
Thank you.

Re: Noob Guide - eSVau - 2009-12-01

Buy a tinker (if available) to sell ur current tank

Re: Noob Guide - DerSatan - 2009-12-02

If Tinker is disabled, you can click on it nevertheless. You will sell you Tank and get a Pilot and can now get another Tank. That Pilot can even teleport to the other Tank Halls (useful when you are sieged and having Problems to get to the outer Tank Hall).

Re: Noob Guide - GooglyBoogly - 2009-12-03

buying a new tank refunds 50% the cost of the old, so you'll get $500 back from a heli.

when you are a pilot, it costs nothing to use the teleport function

I've also seen newbies blow their cash on lazer and rocket towers throughout the game. Don't do this
