my stay percentage is broken - bE3r - 2010-12-11
hi. ever since the real league began, i have been unable to increase one of my stay percentages, despite staying for 100% of the time in plenty of games to raise it. my stats were previously ~ 35 games and 82% / 84%. now i'm at 48 games and 82% / 90%. the first number has not changed, but it plainly should have. isn't the first number supposed to be last 20 games? apparently it's the first that's relevant for playing league games, because i continue to get auto-booted from those. can someone look into this please? thanks.

Average stay: 90%, average stay last 20 games: 82%.I think the explanation is quite simple. The average stay is calculated by (sum of total game lengths)/(sum of stay time in these games). This means a stay in a long game counts more and a leave in a long game hurts more than in shorter games.
But we would need to see the numbers to know what happened.
12 games ago there was a game with left reason "was automatically dropped after 60 seconds", 16, 17 and 19 games ago there is a "lagged out (dropped by vote)".
Your stay % last 20 games should increase when you get these games out of the 20 games window. The first one ("19") will fall out after your next 2 games. And after 5 games you got rid of all "lagged out (dropped by vote)" games.
EDIT: Here are your last 20 games. The first one is the last game you've played. The green one will fall out after two more games.

the stay percentage is broken because if you dont stay 2 mins extra after the game is over, and average games last 40 mins, your percentage will be around 95% stay, so if you leave 2 games early on in last 20 games you'd expect it to be 90% but it will be around 85.5% just above 85%, and if you leave at start of game which lasts 2h you'll need to play 20 games on qualify to be able to play again which sux.

I am having this happen as well...I was at 81% stay overall, stayed whole game and now am at 79% stay...WTF???

I won't explain math here. You should know some basics or think about it
. It's not a moving average, it's the average of the last 20 games. So if you have at least 20 games and do another one one will fall out of the 20 games window and the new one wll be in. If the new is shorter than the one fallen out your stay % may also decrease.

thanks for looking into it. i think i have a good grasp of the math involved. something was wrong but it's better now. the first number has jumped from 82% to 89%. (and i played 1 or 2 games between.)
