Increase maximum zoom level - griffin1987 - 2010-02-06
Hi there,
Would it be possible to increase the battletanks maximum zoom level? As i'm not that much of a scripter i don't know if it's a limit of the map or a limit of wc3, but if it could be done, i'd very much like it, as playing on a 24" monitor with only 5k max zoom is not what i'd want if i could choose (and i know ppl playing with 30" and 2560x1600 instead of my measly 1920x1200).

yes, if it's not the static maximum, we could increase the maximum zoom. but as wc3 isn't meant to have a zoomed out camera, players may notice laggs on a higher camera. atm i see no real reason for it to be increased, as the current maximum shows enough of the map and checking the minimap is still of importance even with a higher zoom. ^^

It's possible, but imo this shouldn't be implemented, since this would just increase the advantage people with better PCs have over players with slower ones.
Normally the game should be the same for everyone, regardless which PC you are using. But already with a zoom level of 5000 you have a big advantage, because you can see quite a lot of the map on one screen.

And in my opinion a high zoom level isn't always an advantage. I'm playing on a 27" 1920x1200 monitor and i'm using a zoom level of 4000.

I play 3210 zoom. High zoom makes perception of range much more difficult. (and also perception of mines)
High zoom makes micromanagement harder. ^_^

when people first discover the zoom command, they often attempt to set it to the maximum allowed. If this is too high, it may cause some low-end PCs to crash. I would not support increasing the max zoom above the current 5000 cap.

i always play at max zoom, and if they had more i'll possibly go the highest possible.
it makes tactical so much better, specially when you have a 50'+ 1080 HD screen for games
