Ive had a similar idea i havent written, anyway...
I think judging distances is a critical part of skill in btanks. With this item, even temporarily, you are granted 'skill'. Thats the way i see it and its kinda like using hero only weapons cough noobmagic. Then again, its a completely subjective thing and very hard to pin a number to and as such, the cost will be hard to make fair or balanced. By this i mean, how much is seeing the exact range of your weapon/s worth? Its defenitly worth MORE the longer the range is i.e. long range 1300 weapons such and noobmagic and rocket packs.
Moving on, my idea for the range showing would be a blur that represents the main ranges of your weapons combined but i would not know how to produce this game mechanic. It could be done with the hero aura. I thought of this as an aid, and this blur would only appear in the direction of the tank. Advanatge would be having weapons of similar range for a more accurate range-blur. Hmm?
As a specific skill for a tank, it could work like a 'radar' by highlighting tanks that are near or inside the weapons range.
Since horselance didnt say more about what he wanted the item/ to be like here are some suggestions (apart from those i have mentioned above):
- Limited duration / fade
- Specific only to tanks, eg. shows range-marker in relation to enemy tanks
- Only shown in an area near the front of the tank, larger arc with more cost (instead of a full 360° range-marker ring)
- As item; cast on enemy tank to draw a connecting line that also displays distance information above enemy tank. Could also be a skill
- As mode; al tanks have or can activate the range ring
As you can tell im strongly opposed to the range ring but am not opposed to the idea entirely. I just think it takes a big part of btanks away.
Also, as a mode, i think it could work well, not as an item as its use is very situational (eg. your range is 49 more than their's; you want to hit them without them hitting you).
