Sharing control and giving items to teammates

I was playing a game earlier and noticed that if you set your tank to afk and drop items other teammates can pick up the items and use them. The abusive part is if that player leaves and you are in posession of the items they remain in your inventory and are not split up. Games could be quite easily unbalanced if someone joined a team and doubled up someones start cash by getting a gun and letting someone use it before leaving.
