I was looking through my password manager and came across credentials for this forum. Fully expected it to be gone so the record can be removed... but it's still up. Amazing.
My last post was in 2012 or just under 12 years ago.
Battle Tanks was a significant part of my life, a pivotal moment in fact. It led to meeting and becoming friends with people I am still friends with to this day, as well as leading down some interesting paths like web stuff and other things.. I won't go into all the details.
Anyway what is everyone up to?
My main game since battle tanks was Heroes of Newerth from 2009 to present. It officially died in 2022 but people were already working on resurrecting it before it shut down. Within a week, I was already attempting to play the game again.
Very rocky start, very janky. But eventually the community got organised enough to run the same infrastructure as the official game. What I mean is that there was a main server handling logins and the client, which connected to volunteer-run game servers. 6 months after the game shut down, we were at about the same level as retail. There are still stability issues since everything is volunteer-run, but we (those in charge) are able to make positive changes to the game, far more than what was possible in retail.
That's because the owners of the game (garena) wanted it to die and not compete with their other published title - league. So HoN was on life support for the final years of it's life. Sad times.
Strange posting here, this server could shut down tomorrow. There's been no post in 3 years so it's safe to say no one actively checks this forum... but maybe someone has notifications set up
