8.64 crashes Mac computers.

It seems the new icons in .64 are crashing macs, i have heard from four people that this is the case.
I do not know if all of the new icons are doing it, but a friend says if he picks tank cannon skill it will freeze and crash, if he does not pick it he can play just fine (as he said).

I have no replay of this because a do not own a mac, also i do not know how to test this unless you have a mac.

Edit: Does his game crash as soon as he learns "Orbital Strike" from the Titan tank as well?
Please let him or someone else with Mac test this, i recommend singleplayer mode with the "-gold" command.

I don't think he has ever made it to titan, but the next time i see him we will test it out, should know in about eight hours from this post.

I am Tom-Ace friend who is having the crashing problem. I have an Intel iMac with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS, running OSX 10.5.8.

The problem is just with the basic cannon icon. I tried the new titan icon, it now looks like the wisp heal icon, and the exploder has the orb of light for its EMP icon. Both of those work fine, but for any tank that has the basic cannon icon, the whole game freezes when I choose it. When I select new abilities, I can see the old cannon icon there, but if I choose it and cancel out from selecting skills the game immediately crashes. So, whatever this new icon is, I don't even have time to see it. I'm guessing its having a problem trying to load or find this new icon.

I know it sounds odd that an icon can crash the game, but this has happened to me before with other maps. When Enfo's Team Survival: MT Edition 1.88 came out, the thumbnail picture for the map caused wc3 to crash on a mac. If I even selected it from the custom games list, wc3 would suddenly exit out. I read on their forums that people were complaining about this and they fixed it in 1.89.

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you could test the icon on a mac computer, or I'd gladly test new icons for you on mine. It could just be a format problem or something like that.

dunno if my mac wc3 freeze because of 8.64 or just because of my update to Snow Leopard but since i have Snow Leopard on it i cant play the 8.64 Version. 8.63 or 8.63b is fine but when i try to play 8.64 it freeze pretty much after few seconds. It doesnt freeze after the same periode of time or after i did some specific action. Thus I reckon its not because of some Icons or whatsoever.

Many Mac users had problems with the editor after the 1.24 release.


I don't know anything about this, but if 8.63 worked fine, what's the changes which makes it unplayable for mac users and not for windows users?

m.h.real, at first I thought the crash was random too, it took me a while to narrow it down to the cannon skill. Does it freeze for you if you just sit there and don't click on anything? Because I can play 8.64 just fine as long as I don't choose the basic cannon skill. I don't have Snow Leopard yet, so its possible we are having different problems. I was planning on upgrading to Snow soon, I hope that won't cause more problems.

But on my current OSX 10.5.8, I am 100% sure that its just this one skill/icon thats causing a lockup.

well i cant really be 100% sure coz i never really tried to narrow the problem down. But it frozen when i tried to buy a tank (the smallest sky tank for 1k) or might be right after it. It also frozen after i bought this green weapon for 2800 (long range weapon). It also freeze when i had my tanks+weapeon and was choosing all my skills. So this all happend quite briefly after the game startet. But is also took a little longer, after i got my tank / weapon and tp to a factory and was even able to kill one. But right after it, the game froze.
Thus i think it cant be an Icon, skill or specific action because it never frozen after the same action. The only think which could be possible that one of the opponents used this icon or whatsoever.

Sorry that i could only describe the weapon or tank i bought but i merely try to remember what i buy,... i just remember whats good

i got the same problem since 8.64 bt crashes every time..

Iam nearly banned on all bots... but i never leaved a bt game... everytime the game crashes

The crashes are most likely caused by something Paladon changed or added. Unfortenately, he's on vacation now for another 10 days or so. He said he used a special method to import the new icons, so that they use less space. Maybe there is some bug in the mac version of warcraft, which crashes the game.
It seems like you have to wait a little for this to be fixed.

I'm having a similar problem in Civ Wars.
For some reason icons crash Macs now. I don't know why it happened, or why only certain icons do it. I import my icons the old-fashioned way and it still happens.

I originally thought that this problem is caused by my importing technique. Apparently, it is not.
We will search for a solution, if we find absolutely nothing, we change it back.
I additionally invited a mac user into the Beta Team.
