Open Code Map

hi,
this is my first post, i play BTanks for few years on XPAM and i must say BTanks are one of the best maps in war3 community.
Like many others mapmakers me and my friend have loads of ideas we would like to test around, and for that we need open code map, uprotected.
I know map makers would never give out their map because of hacking and posting fake maps, and i understand that completly.

but still there is no hurt in trying, so i am asking if there is some opet code btanks map (several versions back would be great either)?
and if there is not is any admin willing to send me map on my email or something like that?

its a little old but i think is perfect.

if its worth anything to you, i promise it will not be abused and maybe we could use it to present new ideas.

I wonder if there are any guides out there about modding 7.55

I guess its not really worth it because the newest BT which is protected, is MUCH better than 7.55 and trying to make 7.55 better is going to fail (because of current BT). This is an unfortunate effect of wc3 mapmaking.

Solution: Work with exo on the map at his lair. In germania.Big Grin

Even trusted people can accidentally leak the bt map so not sharing is good...

I wonder how long it would take someone to mod 7.55 into 8.58, given all the changelogs and changes etc..

Well yeah, 7.55 was basically the version I started modding with (including some bug fixes).

Bob implemented such a condition into this open source map to make sure, that only someone who is kinda good at scripting, can make a playable version out of it.

I don't know what he did there, so I guess you have to find out yourself and please don't say what it is, after you found it.

anyway my goal isnt to make something big playable that would be counter to BTanks and take credit, its just to test some ideas that in theory can be good but bad ingame.
And present it here so they maybe be considered and talked about.

its a long story. but one of ideas is changing formula that calculates dmgs of weapons. we would like to try to change it from linear to exponential.(starting items buffed, best weapons nerfed)
and its kinda stupid to come here and suggest some big things like that cuz it may suck big time Smile so i wanna test it out.
thats why 7.55 is good enough version, it was pretty much balanced OK.

EDIT: aww to tell you the truth i expected some great riddles to crack it but it was easyTongue anyway my lips are sealed and its not gonna make public i promise.

Doing another version of bt with different map, maybe 3 teams is not a compete against the original one. It would surely increase the popularity of BtanksSmile

I rkn there should be a section of the map where people can put forth technical ideas and other people with mapmaking/modding skills can test if they like. As of yet it would have to be a 'request' where you just ask in mapmaking or general forum...

cooi, are you going to test things like complex abilities and special weapons? And is there a way to tell how much 'lag' it impacts onto the map?

special abilities and weapons can be tested without actual map or in beta testing phase of the map.
me and my friend have some major changes we would like to try out.
anyway ill keep you posted about changes in another thread ill open one of theese days.

Though you can test abilities and special weapons in a plain map, you cannot know how they will effect the original map because there is existing codes that is already slowing map..
Ex: when i use skype voice chat and play bt, bt really slows down. But when I do same with 4.53 version, game is so smooth. Because there is no trigger slows the game in that version.

i use ts2 by playing btanks and it does not slow it down in any wayWink

If by unprotected, you mean freely editable with the World Editor, then there might not even be an 'unprotected version'. For example, when I make a map, I write the triggers with JassCraft and import it directly into the map because the Trigger Editor built into World Editor is so horrible, it's nearly unusable. So even an unprotected version of my map wouldn't open in the World Editor correctly.

Of course, I have no idea whether Exodus actually does stuff like that.
