Played a tinker, got to the enemy a torpedo, and the workmate finished at once. But thus the assist wasn't set off.
Hit by a torpedo isn't considered an assist?

It is. You most likely just got out of the assist range. An assist is only granted, if you are within 1500 range of the dying tank. This range restriction has been removed in the latest beta.
