New Pilot unit?
#1
There have been suggestions to implement a unit with which you will start a game. The purpose of this unit is to make the game easier for new players, you won't be able to move around, but you will have a skill which will allow you to teleport between the HQ and the Tank Construction Hall. Furthermore this unit would have skills which just will provide some basic infos for the game (e.g with which tanks its better to start with, that you should buy a weapon, cp-teleporting and such).

This unit will only be available at the start, you will have to sell it to get a real tank (which of course includes the Tinker). It's just to prevent new players from running into the enemy without weapons and a tank ...

Well then, vote if you want to have such a unit at the start.

Well, at first, looking HERE.

Second. Don't you think that teleporting to tank factories is a bit of imba? At present if you want cool tank and your enemy has conquered almost all of map it is quite a problem to get it. And so getting THAT tank is some kind of a challenge for now. Implementing teleport to this location will remove any need of heroic tricks to obtain good tanks however this 'tricks' remain necessary to obtain a good weapon(since good weapon is in the middle of the map).
And, btw, if all CP are conquered by your enemy this two tank factories remain some kind of non-conquerable CPs. You can easily use bomber to teleport there while this will cost only excess 200 coins.

My suggestion is to make this Pilot fellow available to walk the earth like all other units BUT make him immovable at start of the game until buying your first vehicle.

In normal game Pilot may disappear right after buying a tank and next his role will play Tinker.
In no-Tinker mode this Pilot would appear instead of Tinker. And it would be the same Pilot that can move across the map, use speed boost, hulls and teleporters, use CP teleport nad would have NO teleport to tank sellers so would have to get by them by himself.

Of course, make Pilot skills as descriptive guide for noobs(not for bots:)).

-EDIT-
Idea I've got some idea!
Could you gather some potential suggestions as for the Pilot in this topic and make new voting with one option per suggestion, one for own suggestion and one against Pilot? Let us allow people to choose from something tangible but not from 'Yes' or 'No'.

You CANT buy this Pilot... it is ONLY your first unit, then you HAVE TO buy a tank, if u bought it, it is impossible to get this pilot again.

But how about no-Tinker mode when you want to sell your tank and obtain a new one a bit faster? If I CANT buy Pilot in no-Tinker mode and I CANT buy Tinker in that mode than I CANT implement faster tank obtaining as described.
I think this is wrong.

Well, you will be able to buy a tinker then. But in No Tinker Mode the Tinker will be replaced with a pilot. But in this case he won't have the teleport ability, just at the start of the game.

So the pilot can move in no tinker mode?
Reply

No, he's never able to move. His sole purpose is to be sold for another tank. When you sell your tank in No Tinker Mode, you'll do it at the building where you want to buy your next tank, so there's no need for the teleport.

Okey, but what will happen if I die as a pilot before I get the time to buy a tank at tank construction hall? I'm forced to buy a tank at home base then? Or do the pilot get teleport on respawn?

For that case I could make the pilot invulnerable, along with a Tech Mech like inventory, there should be no problem I guess.

 Wait the minute! I have another breathtaking idea!Smile

How about to dispose of that Pilot at all? Just implement a trigger that would calculate simple expression [/size]
Code:
Your_Money + (Your_Current_Tank_Cost / 2) - New_Tank_Cost => 0
[size=90] when clicking on new tank in a tank shop and if result of this expression is TRUE then exchange Your_Current_Tank for a New_Tank!
Simply, isn't it?

please dont write all your posts with bold text, thx. psy-

Not quite. That require the whole tank buying system to be triggered (with gold costs etc. ...). You weren't the first one with that idea. Also, that wouldn't cover the tooltip system which is also linked to that.

I suggest reworking whole tank buying system is pretty much work to be done and you don't want to do this. But... may be in future? You don't need to afraid of lots of work:) One day would become a time to reap the fruits of your labour!
I just think if this would be best solution why not to use it? Are you in some hurry at all?

And Pilot must be implemented as starting unit - of this I can assure you;-)

Yes, I'm happy enough with it. Makes the map more noob friendly with info tags skills on the pilot.

well... i dont like this idea... why? hm... someway hard to say...
there will always be some kind of noobs, but sometimes beginners will be forced by the team -especially in the beginning- to choose a tank and good weapon fast and so noobalike actions are caused. it happened in some public games while playing with most of the players didn't even played bt before. wasn't even a funny game, but the remake after was one. ^^
this pilot may sound useful, not able to move, just with helping abilities and so on, but this wont really help in the end. noobs will stay noobs till they play the map more often ... learn from other players, watching replays or check out the site.
every player had been a noob in the beginning, but we didn't need a pilot, did we?
well... how i already said, hard to explain why i dont like the idea itself...

for you ("skilled player") there is no difference and if this pilot will help 1 noob to play a better game, then it's worth it

word!!! I would also be happy about this pilot. But also Sayuki is right we didnt need Pilot in the past (oh my first Game was against Rocka......0:30 or so on XD). Could there be a strategic Button for tips to start the game (some starting combos like Light+ 2x Basic Magic or Heli and a Plasmagun) ? This would be useful. Often see Tinker running into battle with an Ice Cannon just because they see a big number.

yeah, i got this idea before, but a bit different, i wanted the beginners to give a strategy, so eg, what would a bot do in their position, some kind of small tip, a strategic button would be fine, too.

not bad, but this is like an intro, and this intro would be there every time for every player, and thats annoying after a few games xD (if not, noob wont use it.... promise)

so this pilot, maybe with a button "okay, understood" before you can buy a tank (then maybe with player list in the map, who dont want this button..) it better for "everytime", as i said before, there is no difference for skilled players with this pilot.

I like the idea of this Pilot unit for a no tinker game, except two things...

Firstly I'd have a problem with teleportation to the middle. Getting there manually is half the fun, but if instantly it could be used for a quick "surprise" on an enemy Control Point. (For that matter, being a makeshift Control Point for teleportation purposes)

And secondly, invulnerability even if temporary as a Pilot. Disabling items or otherwise, it only takes two seconds or so to complete the switch so it's hardly worth implementing anyway. You might say it could be used to "buy time" to get into a tactical advantage.

...But yeah, roughly two seconds to complete the switch. If you get scrapped during the transition, I'd say you deserve it.

I don't wanna see a intro every time. Perhaps make it individual, or a intro button during game selection. Not possible to disable this intro?
