I don't see any problem with actual system. Random gives as you say a good reward. Players who pick tanks (usually get 3k value tank) have to run over the map and lose gold/xp to reach the battlefield. This makes the difference, and imo it's enough. I usually pick tank when I play vs a good opponent team, some times it's good to pick, some times not. Random isn't an obligation and it would be sad if it became this way. + there's just a few players who can actually play good every tank...
