Btanks Banlist XML File

Hello everybody,

My Name is Michael and I am from Germany.
Several years ago some eager Dota-players at banlist.nl decided that the leaver situation is overgrowing.
As they saw wc3banlist is not working as effective as it could and should do, they started to think about a new way to make the system better.
So three dota hosts founded the "Approved Hosts".
With the help of Knarf (the creator of wc3banlist) and heftig the xml files of the approved hosts were integrated to wc3banlist.
I was one of the three hosts to start this project.
Perhaps some here know me as Amazing from banlist.nl board and the founder of Clan B4E (Banlist 4 Europe).
Till today this system works fine... for DotA.

Enough introducing now.
My goal is to do the same for btanks as I experienced even the clans mentioned here at btanks.net in the "hangout spot" forum don't care they have members leaving so called "noob pubs".
I gave up Dota some time ago, but I will not do so for btanks.
As I am one of the few pub btanks hosts on Northrend I am seeking people with the same intention here.
I hope I can do my part for the community.

I usually either host games myself (if I can, my university's vpn client denies me the possibility of hosting) when playing or a mate of mine hosts, so my own bl guarantees that people I have banned do not participate in the games I play. My experience is that those hosts who use banlists themselves are usually willing to trust me when I paste a ban that looks like this:
"player x is a LEAVER -- banned in the game "BATTLETANKS ", on Northrend (at 5v5* / 01:03:01) on 20/03/2008 (banned by SturmDrang)". Those hosts who do not use a banlist rather tend not to care. So basically, my interest would be to get as many reliable banlists as possible to minimize the potential of having leavers or players banned for other valid reasons in my games.

A first step to enact your proposal could simply be to revive this thread:

If all current bl users interested in sharing did so, we'd all have a much larger pool of banned players.

A second step might be to standardize banning, but that's a delicate matter, as I for my part also ban people if I believe they should learn some more, a 0-10 k/d-ratio doesn't benefit anyone in the game. I give them a second chance if they join a game of mine again, but it is hopeless if somebody hasn't learned anything in a couple of months. I also ban people who misbehave, kicking an exploder from your own team because you hate exploders is really low. The same applies to excessive flamers and similar offenses. Some people might believe a bad performance should never lead to a ban, but that's discussable ;-)

1) What I have learned in my time at banlist.nl: Rules cannot and shouldnot be set in stone.
As you said misbehaving is a reason for a ban. In one of my last game two people decided to kick their third teammember (stats 9:3)
Cause they wanted the money and they are pro. This is for me so called grief play and a reason for a ban, although they did nothing the game would not allow.

2) The difference between being a newbie (not the insult - just being new) and feeding on purpose has to be seen.
All of us started and when you see someone losing against a farmed demon tank pretty hard, this is not a ban reason.
I allways try to help people improve their gameplay and learn. If I see they don't want to learn they are kicked.
If I see they do die on purpose they are warned and banned.

3) As an Approved Host for DotA you have great responsibility in activeness and fairness. Although we are FAR away from that, the system started with 3 simple dota players active in the community. Some see themself not as common players anymore, but I do so! An approved host serves the community... not the other way.


I will totally rid my banlist from bans older than 1 year and most DotA bans. Disc-Tool-User, Flamer and misbehave in any way will stay.
After that I will start the project with a new xml.

leaving in dota game's is even more crappy than before. now that u can't buy items for the leavers i don't even see why icefrog leaves left heroes in the game. at least with battle tanks the leaver's recources are more fairly divided amonst his teamate's. to me the leavers in battle tanks aren't as annoying as in dota.

Well the thing is that leavers in BT can benefit the team that suffered them, but you're screwed in DotA (just as an archetypical example, there are surely situations in which you benefit from a leaver) if your only tank leaves in let's say midgame and you do not have any hero left that is capable of good tanking and dishing out some damage. I'll contribute some more in a couple of days, the project sounds interesting, but I got my last exam later and I'll be hammered for days ;-)
