Yesterday when i went into a game, i saw ppl talkin about btanks 9.0, so i looked at the site again to be sure if there was a new version, but still 8.35 so i thought it might be a rumour or a fake version. Now, today when i was looking for a game, i came across this 9.0 version. I forgot the name of the host, but just tested the map and it seems to me like it is version 8.35 but only different name. Is that possible, i mean in the game, on top of the scoreboard there was 9.0 too.
Or is it possible that this 9.0 version is the new version (in beta) and slipped out to the public?
Well, i've been seeing more of these lately, dont know if you (developpers) find this a real problem, but it doesnt look good to me seeing this much 9.0 games started when the latest official release is only 8.35...
There's a mod called "Battle Tanks MG", by an Australian called MacGyver, which had reached 9.0 (due to different and independent version numbers) over a year ago, but that map's layout looks different, there are two huge bosses guarding each base, and different weapons and tanks, so I guess it has "MG" in its name as well, haven't played that forever though.
I know the MG map, but it isnt that one. Like i said in my first post, it is completely the same as v 8.35 (besides things that i may have not noticed ofcourse) but on the scoreboard, it also says: 9.0 .
Afaik this version is based on 8.33. You can easily check this with the changelogs. But I can't find any further changes (which might be hidden anyway).
But this version is obviously a fake, the next version will be 8.36 and might take a little more time, but isnt that far away anymore.
This post has been brought to you by Sand - it's everywhere, get used to it.
Just one more question: how could they change the scoreboard title? Isnt that integrated in the map and isnt the map protected, or doesnt it work that way? (i know little to nothing about wc3 maps and their security, always thought 'protected' meant that nobody could change a thing)
Even if the map is still protected, I could open it with my editor and access the description. However the units and triggers are gone, so how he managed to save the map without ruining the map, I've no knowledge about.
Maybe it can be easily done by editing the file itself?? :? I haven't tried saving the map in editor, but I think it will make the map unplayable.
Map protectors rips of editor files which in any means make it difficult to change things on editor level. Warcraft and the Map Editor uses 2 different data sources inside the map, and the map protectors usually removes the map editor data to make the file smaller, so the important info for warcraft is still there. It's just a matter of accessing that data...
Edit_
Ok I see many idiots hosting the 9 version map, and think it's totally new! Like in castle fight description, the maker did post an attention message during maploading to ONLY download from main site to get the REAL version. I think it's a reasonable suggestion, to prevent arguing and conflict about the newest version on b.net, where most does go after the version number.
i dont think the version is exactly 8.33 or 8.35, why should someone effort unprotecting the map or accessing it another way, just to change its name to 9.00??? i think thare are hidden changes.
another point: some day you will maybe reach the point you want to realease a 9.00 yourself (even if you arent really seem too busy working on this map/looking into the forum, but i hope that its just temporarily )
people will find different battle tanks 9.00 versions in their download folder (which is normal because of different map names due to different browser settings), but one of them is fake and one of them is official (with some more noticable changes i think, in 9.00)

the script automatically reads the map title and writes it into the scoreboard
