new community mapping topic read this please!

i was thinking about what exo said about not being interested enough to take the time to keep on evolving the map. instead of retiring from btanks why not just make a new forum!

i'd like to be able to dl the map not protected, then work on it, then upload it with notes on what i changed, why, and where to look at the code. if u could set up a private forum for me and guys like horselance and bob666 to check it out but then we'd all agree not to release or let anyone play it untill it's been shrunk down and most the bugs are out and the code's hidden.

i know that if i could get the map emailed to me i could make some changes and some notes on it for u then u could decide to keep the changes or not. u wouldn't even have to look at it. u could just delete the file, i don't care. i wouldn't want to release my own version. i'd like to just sort of work for u for free and help.

is that a cool idea? would that be possible psy?

I see lots of unexperienced mappes destroying the map if it's made open for public mapping, so I'm against the idea.

Well, you are right, there may be some split groups following different mappers if more than 1,2 people work on the map, but if no one does then the map will die, it will go into oblivion like many maps out there. Unless you have something better to offer I don't see why we shouldn't have new maps in the future.

When Exodus retires, the original mapper gets the map. But he's very inactive and we don't know if he's going to update it, well not often.


Then it's up to him if he decides to select a thrustworty mapper to succeed the Battle Tanks work. That mapper cannot be a person who alter the game to much and ruins the fine balance.

FUCKING RIGHT ON DUDE! HAHAHA! i wasn't sure if i was explaining the idea correctly. sometimes i have to yell at people just to make them understand that they're killing their own ideas and fucking their own shit up. hehe. but it looks like maybe i explained it right this time the first time. i feel like i just planted a seed in your brain.

but my question is do u think that maybe i have earned the right to try? have u even played my fucking map and seen my almost infinite lines of mostly original coding and ideas? what r u basing this assumption that i would some how fuck it up. i just told u. i wouldn't even let anyone have the map but exo. i'd just look at it, and critique it, add and change, a few snips on the sides, a little off the top and some frosted tips for color and presto chango, it's done! hehe! just like a haircut. but he's still got the saved 1, so he can look in the mirror, see the haircut and decide whether or not he likes it and choose to release it or not. i wouldn't even let anyone test it. i'd just leave that up to him. so how could i possible fuck it up any worse then if no one takes the damn map.

tkf brings up a new point. do i even have any guarantee that bob666 will even read this or even have the courtesy of reading and contemplate the validity of my idea? hehe. i feel like i'm in a very uncomfortable and delicate position here and i don't want to sound cocky, i just want a shot at it and i'm willing to put my word as a man cause that's my most valuable posetion that i won't fuck it up! or at least i don't think i will, i want to make it played more than dota and also something that i still totally enjoy and something that everyone who uses these forums still enjoy. i'd miss these conversations about the god damn map! if they go away i need to find a new hobbie and it's a real hassle man. it's such a pain. i think i have some really cool ideas i can work on in spare time. basically take the best and most widely accepted ideas just like exo did and always get bob's approval whenever he wants it or else just leave it and walk away. what's wrong with that?

ok. that's fine. but can u at least suggest a counter idea? if u got a better one that i am ALL EARS man! hahaha! i'm totally against public maping to. that's why i'm suggesting a semi-private public mapping instead. just like bob originally did when he let exo help him for the first time. why not keep up the tradition. if at first it had 1 programmer and now it has 2 then why not just make it 4? hahaha! i think i understand your argument but i still dissagree with your using it as a valid reason to vote no. but i appreciate your honesty. and btw, who says i'm inexperienced, what do u think i studied in all those years of college at devry? did u even know i got an a on a c++ final without even showing up to more than 5 of the classes? if blizzard would just make their shit more user friendly like c++ then maybe i'd acutally have a map more popular than btanks but i just got sick of trying to anticipate all the bugs from workarounds. now i know about that issue though and can do it faster and decide before hand what's probably a mistake and what could work and just avoid most the bugs altogether. have u even played the last version of "kill the mofo!"?

Well, I wanted to make this announcement at another point ... but whatever. I doesn't matter I guess. Yesterday I made the final decission for my successor. In fact, there will will not only be one, but two of them.

Our new BT-Mapppers are Velocity2k and Paladon. I'll just finish this version I'm working on and then it's their turn. I hope you guys welcome and help them on further improving the map. I also hope you are not too dissappointed qweq. When can also keep the forums, there is no need to move to a new side (atm).

I don't know Paladon, but hearing Velo will be one of the new mappers is great (even tho i don't know how much wc3 mapping he did till now).

I know Paladon and he's very known person at THW. Exodus chose people who understands JASS language and hopefully they don't add to much stuff ruining the map in the future.

We first have to get into the btanks map and then we will start with very small changes i think. The current version looks very stable and balanced. So there is no need for big changes in the first weeks/months.

Paladon wants to rewrite the JASS code in vJASS which will be faster. This shoudn't change anything in the gameplay.

Well, I basically chose Paladon for his mapping skills and Velo, because of his knowledge of the map. I think together they are able to improve the map even further.

dude exo!!! if i know u half as well as i think i do then i think u know i'm very happy about this decision of yours. this way i can still stay on as a guider. and to be honest. i think the way veloc has worked with the ghost on this has been awesome. i totally look forward to helping him if he accepts it. veloc and pala, i totolly and 100% agree with this decision of exo's and i'm just suprised at how well he's evolved this map even up until the very end while streaming the new ideas with the old. i'm sure that with just a little bit of luck fate will shine down on this map and remember it in history at least in my and my friend's mind that it's been one of the greatest achievements of our lives.

exo, i hope u don't stop using the forums. at least every once and a while. perhaps later we'll still have the chance to get together at a party one of these days in some continent or another. whoever knows? crazier things have happened right?

100% agree with your final decision exo! 100% dude. perfect. it's just what i was thinking but combined with your same intuitive orignal and yet similiar way of thinking to get something even better than i could have ever hoped to have imagined as usual!

**i just want to go on record here as saying that i'm proud to have been a small part of the evolution of this map up until now and i just want everyone to know that i'm not going to give up on the power of this map to attract players and i think it could still be being played 100 years from now if we just do it right. but with about 100x's the amount of players! ooooh! my cousing is having a wedding reception. it's huge! there could literally be 1000 people there. it's going to be this october in utah. if u, or anyone ele i know wants to come just let me know. i'd love to be there. i'm in ariznoa. so it would just take me like 8 hours to get there by car and then we could be partying!

**off topic even more: by the way: i just wanted to say that i was curious. exo, bob, tkf, etc... i was very intersted and i viewed all your maps and studied them as much as i had time for. did any of you actually review my work on kill the mofo (the final version that i uploaded on this forums)??? i was just curious. because a lot of the ideas of battletanks are intercombined in that map, as well as many more dota/original ideas all rolled up into a weird little game that can be played as an rpg or a team game or solo game. whatever u decide. it's a lot like battle tanks rolled up into 1 million other ideas and games. did any of u ever even look at it? i'd have to guess that none of u have since u never commented on it.
